Biography

Professor Shu received the Ph.D. degree with major in Applied Mechanics and minor in Materials Science from the California Institute of Technology in 1998. He is now a Distinguished Professor at National Taiwan University and a faculty member of the Institute of Applied Mechanics. His major research interest focuses on developing theoretical and numerical methods to study the behavior of smart materials at different length scales. He is also interested in piezoelectric energy harvesting, and has published works which are well recognized in this field, including several highly-cited papers. Prof. Shu has been the recipient of the Outstanding Research Award from the National Science Council of Taiwan and Distinguished Young Scholar Award from the Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. He has been recognized in the Top 2% Scientists Worldwide in a study from Stanford University in both the categories of "career-long impact (1960-2020)" and "citation impact during the single calendar year 2020" (https://doi.org/10.17632/btchxktzyw.3).
