On the morning of September 19th, Kyoto University’s Office of Society-Academia Collaboration for Innovation visited National Taiwan University (NTU). The collaborative research director, Katsutoshi Fukuda, the international affairs counselor, Muneo Takaya, and the international researcher, Dr. Ravi VELAGA, visited the campus. First, Professor Tang-Long Shen, deputy research and development director of NTU’s R&D department, and Sheng-Wei Peng, CEO of NTU’s Industry Liaison Office, shared their experiences about industry-academia collaboration. Afterwards the two sides exchanged views and experiences.
Considering the needs of Taiwan's future development and limited short-term changes in the organization, the MIT's industry-academia collaboration model is adopted to set up the "National Taiwan University Industry Liaison Office (NTU ILO)" with a federal-style conceptual plan. NTU ILO aims at linking the resources of top companies, focusing on forward-looking and innovative research, and assisting with the connection between Taiwan's industry and the international.
Later, the guests went to the main campus to meet with the R&D chief, Pai-Chi Li, and talked about the collaboration between the two universities.
Subsequently, Shou-Yan Zhang, the Vice CEO of NTU ILO, accompanied the guests from Kyoto University to visit the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Robotics of National Taiwan University. The establishment of a cross-disciplinary center covering artificial intelligence applications on robotics, industrial manufacturing, biomedical science, and cognitive science is an urgent need. NTU is a comprehensive university with forward-looking research in the academic field, with the environment of high-quality research and industry-academia collaboration. The school is also very active in attracting scholars from overseas, promoting international academic exchanges, and enhancing Taiwan’s international status and strength in the international academia. Based on such excellent conditions and the full support of the school, the "National Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Robotics Research Center" was established.
In the end, Shou-Yan Zhang, the Vice CEO of NTU ILO, and Wen Song-Hua, manager of ILO, accompanied the guest to companies of ATEN International, QNAP, BriteMED, and Quanta Computer, where the exchange was successfully completed.
