Unveiling of ChatGPT: Experts and Scholars Gather at National Taiwan University Forum to Explore AI Innovation in Finance and Business

On June 14th, the FinTech Research Center at NTU and the Industry Liaison Office of National Taiwan University organized a successful forum on "Developments and Applications of ChatGPT in Finance and Business." Nearly 200 professionals, including scholars, industry experts, and business leaders, participated in this grand event, collectively exploring the potential and challenges of ChatGPT in the fields of finance and business.

Since its rapid rise in late 2022, ChatGPT has garnered widespread attention and interest. It shows great importance not only for financial technology and various business sectors but also triggers revolutionary impacts across industries. Distinguished Professor Chung-Chih Wu, VP of the Office of Research and Development, and Director of Industry Liaison Office, NTU, said in his opening remarks, "AI technology has made astonishing advancements over the past decade. Compared to other AI techniques, ChatGPT has a more direct and impactful effect on general users. It has created numerous opportunities, enhancing work efficiency and accelerating digital transformation for users and businesses. However, it also brings concerns and risks regarding cybersecurity, ethics, and legal aspects. New technologies require new responses, and this is precisely why we organized this forum." Director Chu-Song Chen from the FinTech Research Center at NTU also mentioned: “We hope to take advantage of this sensation and gather the views of experts and scholars to bring innovative thinking, so that ChatGPT can be applied in different business to develop more specific applications.”

The first half of the forum covered several speeches. Associate Professor Yun-Nung Chen of the Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering, NTU began by discussing the recent advancements in generative AI and how to enhance the user experience of ChatGPT. She also addressed technical difficulties such as data leakage and misinformation prevention. Professor Morgan M.H. Hsieh, Director of the Risk and Insurance Research Center at National Chengchi University discussed the importance of digital transformation for organizations and shared several successful case studies. Following that, Jyh-Shing Jang, CTO of E.Sun Financial Holding Company, explored the current applications of generative AI in the financial industry and the challenges it faces. Shou-De Lin, Chief Scientist at Appier Inc., discussed how organizations can determine the scope of AI applications, establish implementation processes, and evaluate effectiveness from various types of business perspectives. Lastly, Victor Kuan, Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company and former Chairman of Citibank Taiwan, delved into how AI can provide integrated and customized services from a customer-centric standpoint while optimizing cost-efficiency and employee productivity for operations to achieve smart finance.

Furthermore, all speakers participated in a panel discussion moderated by Director Chu-Song Chen. They engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions regarding the challenges of implementing ChatGPT and various AI technologies in enterprise applications. The speakers shared valuable practical experiences and insights while actively exchanging opinions. The forum successfully demonstrated the potential of AI technology in finance and business, promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange. It also showed the importance of integrating technological research with industry needs. Through close industry-academia cooperation, National Taiwan University aims to amplify the benefits of this forum and continue working hand in hand with scholars, industry experts, and business leaders to foster more innovative applications and technological breakthroughs.
