[Event Information] NTU Royal Palm Lecture Series – Distinguished Talk by Academia Sinica Academician Dr. Duan-Hua Ho: “Plants as Guardians of the Earth”

The NTU Royal Palm Lecture Series is a university-wide program featuring speakers with outstanding achievements or international influence from academia and industry. These lectures aim to promote scholarly exchange and broaden the global perspective of NTU faculty, staff, and students.
This session proudly features Academician Dr. Duan-Hua Ho from Academia Sinica. All are welcome to attend.

● Speaker Introduction:
Dr. Duan-Hua Ho is an Academician of Academia Sinica, a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), where she served as President from 2010 to 2012—the first ever from Taiwan. In 2024, she was awarded ASPB’s highest honor, the Charles Reid Barnes Honorary Life Membership Award, for her outstanding contributions to plant science.

Dr. Ho received her bachelor's degree in Botany from National Taiwan University, followed by a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Michigan State University and postdoctoral research in molecular genetics at MIT. She is a pioneer in applying molecular genetics tools to plant research. Her major research areas include:

  1. Regulation and signaling of plant hormones
  2. Functions of plant stress-related proteins
  3. Use of agricultural waste for biofuels and biomaterials

Currently, she serves as Distinguished Visiting Chair Professor at the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology, Academia Sinica, where she also served as Director (2003–2008). Internationally, Dr. Ho taught at Washington University in St. Louis for over three decades and is now an emeritus professor and consultant. She also holds honorary chair professorships at NTU, NYCU, NCHU, NCKU, and China Medical University.
Her active roles on editorial boards and as an advisor to biotech firms highlight her wide-ranging impact in plant science and its applications.
