Suprarenal gland_50X_semithin with toluidine blue

This photograph shows the cortex and medulla of rat suprarenal gland. The cortex in this photograph includes the zona fasciculate and the zona reticularis. The cells of zona fasciculate are arranged in long straight cords which are separated by sinusoidal capillaries. The cells of zona reticularis are arranged in anastomosing cords which are separated by fenestrated capillaris.

This photograph shows the zona fasciculate of cortex. The cells of zona fasciculate are arranged in long straight cords, one or two cells thick, which are separated by longitudinal sinusoidal capillaries (stars). The cytoplasm of cell cords contains many lipid droplets (red arrows) which usually appears calculated in H&E sections . The black arrows indicates the endothelial cells of sinusoid.

This photograph shows the medulla of suprarenal gland which contains chromaffin cells (C). The cells of medulla are arranged in ovoid group and short interconnecting cords with numerous capillaries in their fine supporting stroma. Veins (V) draining blood from the sinusoids of the cortex pass through the medulla.

Pineal gland_400X_semithin with toluidine blue

Pinealocytes are the chief cells of the pineal gland, which are arranged in clumps or cords. They have a large nucleus with one or more prominent nucleoli (blue arrows) and contain lipid droplets (red arrows) within their cytoplasm. Star-shaped interstitial cells (arrowheads) are characterized by their densely-staining triangular nuclei and cytoplasm. Numerous blood vessels are also present in the photograph.
