The Comprehensive
Functional Capacity Evaluation (CFCE) was developed in the year 1995. The CFCE
is a battery of tests created to assist a therapist in determining an
individual’s maximum work-related physical abilities. It consists of 28
subtests classified into four sections: strength, mobility, hand coordination,
and position tolerance. These subtests cover the nine out of 20 physical demand
factors described by the DOT (United States Department of Labor, 1993),
including strength, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, handling, and fingering.
