National Taiwan University (NTU) Graduate Program of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language for Students


Revised and Passed April 12, 2012 at the sixth Course Committee Meeting. (Second Semester of the Graduate Program of Teaching Chinese as a Sixth Language).


Article 1 This program is established to enrich the teaching experience of students and to cultivate outstanding teachers of the Chinese language.


Article 2 The relevant regulations regarding the student’s practical approach to the program are as follows:

1. I. Internship Teacher: This instructor is responsible for guiding students on their program internship work and interviewing or contacting counselors of internship units. The instructor is also responsible for evaluating the student internships and their progress reports.
2. II. Internship Qualification: Students that are in their second year or above in this program and have taken compulsory core classes.
3. III. Internship Hours: 72 hours or more for a minimum of 3 weeks.
4. IV. Internship Unit: Domestic or foreign education institutions, professional accreditation bodies or recognized schools (including university affiliated language centers) of all levels. The native language of learning students must not be Chinese. Internship units without the aforementioned qualifications must be certified by the program in advance.
5. V. Internship Selection: Limited internship placements in affiliated academic institutions or schools of all levels that are recognized by the program must be selected through an examination-free admission by the program. The list of selected interns will then be announced. Each year’s examination-free admission format will be decided by the program.
6. VI. Internship Jobs: Internship jobs should be in the form of Chinese-language instruction and in accordance with the stated internship units in Article 2-4.
7. VII. Internship Reports: An internship report (5000 words or more in Chinese / 10,000 words or more in English) must be completed and handed to the intern instructor within two months of the end of the internship job.
8. VIII. Grade Evaluation: The program’s intern teacher will be evaluated based on the comments of a counselor from the internship unit, internship performance and internship report content. The grading system will be in accordance with NTU’s regulations, evaluation of the ranking system and the pass standard must be in accordance with the NTU MA students’ requirements. Students with internship grades below the pass mark will not be eligible for the oral thesis examination.
9. IX. Chinese teachers that have served in domestic or foreign education institutions, professional accreditation bodies or recognized schools of all levels (including university affiliated language centers) where the native language of students is not Chinese, possess a work certificate and have taught 72 or more hours may be exempted from internship with the approval of the program Course Committee.
10. X. Students of this program must provide a teaching or internship certificate of a minimum of 72 hours before being eligible to apply for an oral thesis examination.

Article 3 Should this article have any missing agenda, the program Course Committee will decide the outcome and possible revision.


Article 4 The main points of this program have been revised and passed by the Course Committee after the date of promulgation.
