Perovskite Structure for Photocatalytic Water Splitting

鈣鈦礦結構應用於光催化水分解

Hydrogen can be an alternative for fossil fuels as clean and renewable energy among the energy crisis. Photocatalysis, which is a promising method to generate hydrogen, can harvest sunlight to decompose water directly into high-density chemical energy. Moreover, perovskite is a suitable structure of photocatalyst for water splitting because of its high stability, showing ideal reproducibility and little photocorrosion. In this study, we synthesized strontium titanate of perovskite structure. To study the performance of hydrogen evolution, we tested different synthesis conditions, such as temperatures of calcination, species of melted salts, and doping percentage of aluminium. Furthermore, we designed an aqueous system for sacrificial reagents in water spitting to maximize the hydrogen yield. The results showed that strontium titanate doped with 2 molar percent of aluminum, under flux method of SrCl2, and RhCrOx as the cocatalyst performs high and stable hydrogen evolution in pure water solution and alkaline KI solution.
