Education

University of California, San Diego

9/2000 - 9/2005

Ph.D. in Oceanography, Division of Applied Ocean Sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography

  1. Thesis entitled A Bayesian Approach to Matched-Field Geoacoustic Inversion with Analysis of ASIAEX Experimental Data [thesis_1.pdf|thesis_2.pdf], supervised by Professor William S. Hodgkiss. The research project includes inverting a highly nonlinear ocean bottom model to obtain ocean bottom properties from ASIAEX experimental data and making quantitative statistical inferences in ocean bottom geoacoustic parameters.

  2. Major course subjects taken in the areas of Array Signal Processing, Adaptive Filter Theory, Ocean Acoustics and Signal Processing, and Geophysical Inverse Theory.

National Sun Yat-sen University

8/1995 - 7/1998

M.S. (6/1998) in Ocean Acoustics, Institute of Undersea Technology

  1. Thesis entitled Acoustic Wave Scattering from Rough Sea Surface and Seabed [thesis_iut.pdf], supervised by Professor Jin-Yuan Liu. The thesis project investigates the effect of roughness on the acoustic scattering from both air and water, and includes a complete model which considers wave scattering from a rough interface overlying on a penetrable medium with gradual variation of acoustic properties.

  2. Major course subjects taken in the areas of Sediment Acoustics and Acoustic Wave Scattering from Rough Surfaces.

M.S. (6/1997) Dynamics of Marine Structures, Department of Marine Environment

  1. Thesis entitled Dynamic Response of Coastal Embankment during Earthquakes [abstract_stru.pdf], supervised by Professor Bang-Fuh Chen. The thesis project investigates the effect of a sediment layer on the dynamical response of the coastal structures due to the earthquake excitation. The formulation is derived from fundamental theories in various fields, including marine hydrodynamics, flow in porous medium, and structural dynamics

  2. Major course subjects taken in the areas of Partial Differential Equations and Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics.

B.S. (1995) Marine Environment, Department of Marine Environment

  1. Major course work includes Mechanics of Materials, Structural Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Coastal Engineering, and Engineering Mathematics
