Male reproductive system
Testis_400X_semithin with toluidine blue
This micrograph illustrates a mouse adult seminiferous tubule. The Sertoli cells (red arrows) are supporting cells and rest on the basal lamina of the seminiferous epithelium. The nucleus of Sertoli cell is typically triangular or ovoid and pale- staining and has a prominent nucleolus. The spermatocytes (yellow arrows) have large round nuclei with a distinctive chromatin. The spermatids undergo extensive cell remodeling as their round nuclei (early spermatid, green arrows ) become condensed (late spermatid, purple green arrows) and differentiate into mature sperm.

This electron micrograph illustrates the area near basement membrane (BM, blue arrow) in a seminiferous tubule. The Sertoli cell rests on the BM, lateral to which is the myofibroblast (Myo, pink arrowhead) The nucleus of Sertoli cell is typically triangular or ovoid and has a prominent nucleolus (red arrow) which dense chromatin bodies (white arrow) are often nearby. Two Sertoli cell–to–Sertoli cell junctional complex (red dash circle) are shown. The spermatocyte (yellow arrow) have large round nuclei with a distinctive chromatin. The early spermatids (green arrows) with their round nuclei are observed.

The Sertoli cell rests on the basement membrane (BM, blue arrowheads) , lateral to which is the myofibroblast (Myo, pink arrowhead) The nucleus (N) and mitochondria (M) of Sertoli cell and the Sertoli cell–to–Sertoli cell junctional complex (red arrows) are shown. The Sertoli cell–to–Sertoli cell junctional complex contributes to the blood–testis barrier.

The early spermatids with their round nuclei (green arrows) and a late spermatid with its condensed nucleus (purple arrows) are observed. The electron micrograph shows the cross section of the middle piece. The middle piece (blue dash circle) consists of the nine outer dense fibers and the axonemal complex longitudinally and are surrounded by elongated mitochondria in a tightly packed helix.

The electron micrograph shows the late spermatid with its condensed nucleus (N) capped with acrosomal cap (AC, purple arrows). The electron micrograph shows the cross section of the middle piece. The middle piece consists of the coarse fibers and the axonemal complex longitudinally and are surrounded by elongated mitochondria (M, blue arrows) in a tightly packed helix.

Seminal vesicle_100X_semithin with toluidine blue
This micrograph illustrates the seminal vesicles which lumen is highly irregular and recessed, giving a honeycomb appearance at low magnification. The wall of the seminal vesicles contains mucosa layer (M), smooth muscle layer (SM), and fibrous coat (F).

Seminal vesicle_400X_semithin with toluidine blue
The mucosa layer (M) of the seminal vesicle is lined with pseudostratified columnar epithelium containing nonciliated columnar cells and short, round cells that rest on the basement membrane. The columnar cells have the morphology of protein-secreting cells with lipid droplets (red arrows) in the cytoplasm, giving it a foamy appearance with large secretory vacuoles in the apical cytoplasm . The smooth muscle layer (SM) is arranged into inner circular and outer longitudinal layers.
