Cochleanthes discolor (Lindley) R.E.Schultes & Garay
Distribution: Costa Rica to Venezuela; West Indies.
Flower size: 5cm in diameter

I bought this species on March 1998 from Greg, owner of A New Leaf in Ithaca, New York. It is an easy growing orchid with numerous tender and succulent roots but without pseudobulbs. Flowered inflorescence are produced from the axils of the leaf-sheaths. Cool night temperature seems help flower development. It first boomed on May 1999. When I showed Greg the flower he believed it has a nice smell. However, I couldn't detect it.
