Studies
on “Ming Confucian Scholar’s Analects”
The
importance of ‘Ming Ju Hsueh An’ (Confucianism Document of the Ming
Dynasty):
This book has reflected the editor and scholar Huang Chung-Si’s viewpoint
toward the history of intellectual thought of the Ming Dynasty. The records
begins with the school of thought of Cheng Hao, Cheng Yi and Chu His.
The remaining part of this book includes the following major events in
the history of intellectual thought during the Ming Dynasty: first, the
period when Wang Yang-Ming’s idea emerged as the major trend of intellectual
thought, scholars of Cheng and Chu struggled to fight against the school
of thought of Wang; second, with the integration between the two schools
of thought of Chu and Wang by scholars of the school of Dung-Lin, these
two schools finally were able to be unified in the thought of Ji-Shan
Liu. By this time period, the Ming Dynasty was also reaching its end.
Most importantly, this book contains almost all the branches of school
of thought of the Neo-Confucianism of the Ming Dynasty. It is a collection
of biographies and articles written by numerous scholars; the material
gathered in the book is abundant and they also appropriately reflected
Huang’s creative and fine viewpoint on history of intellectual thoughts.
Thus, this book has therefore become a fundamental reference book in
the study of the history of intellectual thought of the Ming Dynasty.
