Seminar on Poetry and Prose of Tao Yuan-Ming

In this course, the existing poetry and prose of Tao Yuan-Ming and the relevant research material will be chosen as the basic instructional material. The course content will be divided into the following three portions:
a. The instruction on selected poems and prose (including poem, prose-poetry [Fu], as well as records [Chi], biographies [Chuan], annotation on classics [Shu] and worshiping writing [Chi]).
b. The reading and study on research material (including the relevant research works written in Chinese, English and Japanese).
c. Seminar on special topics.
The instructor is responsible for the first part, that is, the lecturing on selected poem and prose. Students are responsible for the reading and studying of relevant research material by turns. They will be also required to exchange and share their thinking and feeling from their own learning with each other and to participate in the discussion together. Students are required to propose and to compose an academic paper for each semester.
The course outlines and the list of recommended reading references will be distributed on the first day of the first semester. As to the selected works and relevant bibliographies, they will be collected and printed as handouts and further to be distributed to students in due course.
The term paper will be the major part of the grading; the performance in class, including the study on relevant written material and seminar, will be the auxiliary.
