Lecture: The Spatial Phenomena of Periphery Society


Global Asia Research Center collaborate with Border Studies, Department of Geography, NTU, holding first lecture of GARC on 12th October, The Spatial Phenomena of Periphery Society.

We are honored to have Prof. Ying-Gui Haung, Distinguished Professor, Interdisciplinary Program of Humanities and Social Sciences, National Tsing Hua University, to give us a lecture on Spatial Phenomena from the point of periphery society.

The lecture will take Donpu Tribe (Bunon people) for example, elaborating development of spatial phenomena in different period, going through pre-capitalism, capitalism in the governance of Japanese colonialism, KMT dictatorship, and neoliberalism in contemporary.

The concept of space in Donpu tribe and Bunon culture is centered by individual home in the pre-capitalism era, but being toward to objectification and commercialization when it comes to national capitalism. And the concept of space is more close to individualization in contemporary Bunon society.
