Human Genetics & Psychiatric Epidemiology Lab

Purpose & Motivations

We’re also interested in investigating heritability of the traits and studying interactions between environmental exposures and genomic factors. Furthermore, for most of the complex traits, high heterogeneity in phenotypes is often observed. We attempt to conduct advanced statistical analyses with the aid of comprehensive data collection to identify more homogenous phenotypic subgroups, which is beneficial for employing following genomic analyses, and can further enhance our ability for results interpretation and application for relevant health events.

The lab of “Human Genetics and Psychiatric Epidemiology” aims to develop and apply different genetic analytic methods and bioinformatics approaches to a series of psychiatric disorders and human complex traits, in order to exploring potential effects of candidate genes, functional pathways, and different etiological/pathological mechanisms, including genome-wide associations, gene expression, post-transcriptional regulation, gene methylation, and metabolomic mechanisms.

Our Research

The major research focuses in our lab are complex human traits, including psychiatric disorders (e.g. mood disorder, substance use disorders, etc.), and other physical health issues (e.g. sleep disturbances, metabolic syndrome, overweight). Our study population includes clinical patients, healthy adults, and young school children. The current research topics are listed in the following sections. We welcome students and researchers who are interested in any of these topics for collaborations and further discussions with lab members.

  • 1. Mood Disorders
  • 2. Microbiota
  • 3. Youth Mental Health
  • 4. Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity
  • 5. Substance Use Disorders
