Course Design

This course is designed to help the students demonstrate core knowledge and beginning practice competence in direct practice with a client system and on behalf of client systems in the context of programs and organisations for the delivery of social services. 

Course Objectives

The objectives of this practicum are based on competence model. In other words, the competency model will be the framework for practicum program and the student will be expected to achieve the level of competence as defined, that is; a.to develop and demonstrate his/her professional identity as a social worker in respect to commitment to and the provision of service to people. b. to develop and demonstrate the ability to function within an organisational context. c. to develop and demonstrate the ability to function within a community context. d.to develop and demonstrate the ability to identify and assess problems; to plan and carry out intervention; to evaluate intervention and use of
feedback and self. e. to employ effective communication skills relevant to micro and/or mezzo/macro practice.
Other objectives are to educate students who are able to:
a. apply a broad range of knowledge, skill and value considerations to an Micro or messo/macro concentration of social work and social welfare, and to deepen appropriate knowledge and skill with respect to that area; and b. transfer this knowledge and skill to other areas of social work and social
welfare concern.  

Course Requirements

1. Each student will complete a praticum from September 2004 to January
2005 (3 credits).
. 2. The timeframe for the practicum is from September 13 to January 20
for one and half days a week,
