一、招生對象:凡年滿18歲或已取得大學入學資格者。

二、開設時間與班別:
        A. 日間課程:101年3月19日~6月1日,下午15:30~18:10,共10週。(4月2~6日清明連續假期停課)
        B. 夜間課程:101年3月19日~6月1日,晚間18:30~21:15,共10週。(4月2~6日清明連續假期停課)

 

三、報名時間及方式:
1.電話預約報名時間:101年2月20~3月2日,上午9:00~12:00,下午13:00~20:00。
2.繳費時間:101年3月5日~3月7日,上午9:00~12:00,下午13:00~20:00。
3.繳費方式:請攜帶一吋照片2張(印表機列印亦可)及身分證件(或學歷證件),至語文中心124室填寫報名表並繳交學費。

 

四、學費優惠辦法:
1.連續報名就讀本中心英語課程之舊生(僅限第41期專業英語班、第141期英語進修班、第142期英語進修班、第16期週末外語班及第17期週末外語班),憑學員證始可享有免收報名費300元之優惠。

Taiwanese are rarely given the opportunity to use English to speak in front of a group of people. How are written speeches different between the west and Taiwan? How are they presented differently? These questions along with others will be addressed in this class. From simple ideas such as brainstorming, outlines and  body language will be taught. Each week students are given the chance to deliver a speech on a host of topics. Speeches to inform, speeches to persuade as well as debating will covered over the course of the program.

The goal of this course is to give students practice at the sentence level using the following: Participles, Appositives, Absolutes, Prepositional Phrases and Infinitive Phrases, Noun Substitutes, Coordination and Subordination. This course deals with the problem of when to use each of these tools, how often and in what contexts. We will be making use of sentence combining and other methodologies to get students to reduce their incidence of using mainly relative clauses. Variety is important in English. Students will also get a lot of practice trying to identify, in context, the best place to use each of these sentence tools. If time permits we will also cover: Rearrangement and Repetition for Emphasis, Tone and Paragraph Patterns.

This course is intended to foster the skills necessary to cope with listening and speaking tasks on the TOEFL iBT exam. It is expected that students will develop the ability to think critically in order to formulate logically sound and relevant answers to speaking questions. It is also expected that students will learn to listen for specific content points as well as the main idea of listening passages. The course is structured to familiarize students with the types of questions and the strategic approaches required to formulate good responses. In addition to TOEFL preparation texts, the course will utilize outside media sources to illustrate how everyday, freely-available English resources can be used to help prepare for any standardized testing situation.

This course involves an interactive approach to negotiating from an international perspective. The students work in teams on ten case studies. Each student has a role to play in each case. The instructor regularly visits each negotiation session and makes suggestions for improvement relating both to technique and language. Students are expected to purchase a copy of English. For International Negotiations by Drew Rogers. This text is available at Bookman Bookstore. The objectives of the course are to make students aware of the issues involved in international negotiations in as realistic a context as possible. Some of the cultural issues covered are: Contract, Deal versus Relationship, Protocol, Decision Making, Conflict, Direct versus Indirect Communication, Win-Win versus Win-Lose. Under the rubric of the art of negotiation students will learn how to: Establish Interests and Not Positions, How To Not Underestimate The Importance of Socializing and Protocol, To Take the Other Side's Position Seriously, How To Depersonalize and Focus on Substance, How to Listen and Observe Actively, To Periodically Summarize Agreement As You Are Going Along, How To Establish a Feeling of Fairness By Using Objective Criteria, To Document Your Position and Present It Logically, The Importance Of Documentation, Establishing a Positive Mind Set Before Entering Negotiations, How to Identify and Deal With Tactics and Tricks(Home Field Advantage, Stalling, Wearing You Out, Unfavorable Positioning, Misrepresenting Facts, Two Bites Of The Apple,. Introduction to Academic Writing is a foundation course designed to aid students in developing basic skills to write academic English.  This course will introduce and discuss the essentials of standard written English, including word usage, grammar, rhetoric and organization, and their practices in academic writing. Emphasis will also be placed on the principles of clear and effective writing for academic purposes. In this course, extensive reading and writing will be assigned to provide students with opportunities to observe, explore and apply what has been covered in class.

The course will include at least the following: The Logical Structure of Arguments, Evidence in Arguments, Moving Your Audience, Accommodating Your Audience (Treating Differing Views). We will be looking in great depth at: Definitional Arguments, Causal Arguments, Resemblance Arguments, Evaluation Arguments and Proposal Arguments. Some time will also be devoted to Logical Fallacies; however, unlike most courses we will be dividing these fallacies into the areas they emanate form i.e. logos, ethos, and pathos.

The language used in academic writing is quite different from that used in e-mails, business writing. We will be emphasizing those areas where academic writing differs from other writing encountered by students at school and later at work. This course is intended for students working on their Master's Thesis or Ph.D. Dissertation. Students needed to be at least the same level as those entering the Argumentation and Persuasion course. Students will be doing a series of exercises to help them develop the language needed to write an abstract, an introduction to comment on date and numbers. There will be some focus on what tenses are necessary to help the student focus their papers, establish their niche, write purpose statements, citations and annotated bibliographies. This is not a writing course per se; some writing is involved in the assigned exercises but much of the time will be devoted to helping students develop some ability to think about what language and expressions will help them achieve their goals in their Dissertations and Theses.

Summarizing and Paraphrasing From Sources: this course will meet once per week but will only run for FIVE WEEKS. Here is some info. for advertising purposes: Academic Writing: Summarizing and Paraphrasing: Objectives and Description -to give students ample opportunities to practice and refine their skills in two of the most neglected but most important skills for any graduate student. Summarizing and Paraphrasing force students to look at a source in detail, get into the mind of the writer(and thus better understand his/her ideas)and learn to substantially change the sentence structures and vocabulary. This last skill may also be of interest to undergraduates with good English skills. No other skill in school or university or in the cram schools really deals with English sentence structure as well as paraphrasing.

1. 本中心得視報名人數,調整進修班次開課事宜;各班次人數不足12 人時,不予開班。
2.本中心課程採小班教學,為避免名額浪費,報名繳費前請評估個人狀況(如上班時間、交通等因素),審慎考量。凡繳費後,申請退費者,日後報名任何課程,本中心得列為候補名單

3. 經報名繳費後,如因故無法上課時,於開課日前提出退費申請,可辦理退還學費九成;開課後至上課次數三分之一前提出者,退還學費五成;逾上課次數三分之一者,所繳費用全數不予退還;本班因非固定連續開設之班程,恕無法辦理延期就讀,請參考本中心「學員退費及延期就讀辦法」。退費時需繳回收據正本、上課證,若由他人代為辦理退費者,除需收據正本上課證外,尚須提供退費委託書及代理人身分證影本。收據正本遺失補印存根,必須繳交100元手續費,並填寫切結書。退費申請核准後,所退費用約於二週後以匯入收據繳款人帳戶之方式退還,轉帳手續費用須自行負擔。

4. 學費不含書籍費,學員需自行全額負擔教師指定的教科書書籍費用。
5. 各班修業期滿,結業成績及格(60分)及上課時數符合本班規定者(缺課時數不超過上課總時數之四分之一),可申請由本中心核發結業證書、成績單或登錄「公務人員終身學習時數」。
