of Promotion Qualifications and Application Materials |

1. Those who have served at the current position after the award of for three years or above, which must be subsequent to the award of the teaching certificate by the Ministry of education (years of full-time years of service at other universities can be added up), have achieved excellent performance, and have had substantial achievements in publications, are qualified for promotion to a higher rank.

2. Must
be
serving at the teaching post in the semester they apply for promotion. |

3. Must have received awards from the National Science Council or have been granted one or more research projects by academic institutions, such as the National Science Council, Academia Sinica, Ministry of Education, and National Taiwan University, within the last five years. (The applicant must be the Principle Investigator or Co-investigator of the Project.) |

| 4. Have passed the latest Faculty Evaluation. | ||||||

5. Other matters: must observe the Regulations for Promotion established by the College of Liberal Arts. |

Publication Date for the Major Works: The submitted major works should be subsequent to the award of the latest teaching certificate and within five years. The five years will be calculated from the award date (August 1st) on the new teaching certificate that is attached to the application. *An extension of two years will be granted to applicants who are pregnant or who have recently given birth. *Journal articles can be submitted if they have been accepted for publication before the date of the initial review of the promotion applications. An acceptance letter should be attached to prove that the work(s) will be published at a specified date, which should be within one year. |

Degree dissertations, in whole or in part, cannot be submitted as part of an application for promotion, unless the applicant has never previously submitted his/her degree dissertation for review. Work related to the dissertation will only be considered if it constitutes a significant development of the dissertation material and has been subjected to peer review prior to publication. |

If the major works are journal articles or book chapters |
If the applicant selects “journal papers” as major work, there should be at least two papers published in the A-level journals that are listed in the DFLL Index of Qualified Journals. The length of each work must be no less than fifteen pages. In those cases where journals have limited the word-length of each contribution, the applicant may make a request for shorter articles to be approved by the TEC. |

Journal articles pending for publication may as well be listed as one's major works, but the applicant must provide a publisher's letter (dated before the initial review of the promotion applications) to prove that the article is sure to be published at a specified date, which should be within one year. After it is published, one must submit an offprint or a copy to the NTU Personnel Office for confirmation. |

A book chapter refereed and published by one of the following of publishers or academic institutions and approved by the DFLL Teachers' Evaluation Committee is equal to an A-level journal article and can be selected as one's major works for promotion review: 1) A university press outside of Taiwan that has a good international reputation. 2) A publisher outside of Taiwan that has a good international reputation. Such publishers are divided into two categories below:
3) A Taiwan academic institution of good international reputation. NOTES: 1) According to the University and Collegiate regulations, the book chapter(s) selected for promotion review must already be published and moreover, the applicant must attach a) a letter of approval from the publisher which states it is scholarly refereed, b) a list of the editorial board members, and c) at least two scholarly reviews from experts in the field in order to meet the basic qualifications. 2) Other book chapters that have been refereed and published are equal to B-level journal articles (must attach a letter of approval from the publisher which states it is scholarly refereed, along with the scholarly reviews). They can be selected as "secondary works," but NOT as one's "major works." |

If the major work is a collection of essays or a book |
|
||||
| its contents must be of, or related to, one theme, and there should be more than one article of the collection or part of the book having been published in B-level or above journals within the last five years. | ||||||

The above-mentioned collection of essays or book should be at least 120 pages in length. |

"Unpublished" conference papers are NOT acceptable. |

Applicants for promotion should submit course materials from the last FIVE years for evaluation. Materials must include course descriptions and syllabi, course designs for assignments and exams, and course evaluations submitted by students. |

Email a publication list of the works one submits for evaluation, in MLA bibliography format: Please type out and designate one's major work(s) and secondary works, which must be numbered according to the publication dates. The applicant must also number and arrange the copies of the works in accordance with the order of this publication list. One can also list in the last column other supporting materials that were NOT submitted for evaluation but were published/presented after the award date of their latest teaching certificate. The supporting materials will be listed for reference only and will not be read by the outside readers.
