Back to Part IIPaph. villosum

Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum
Distribution: NE India, SW China to N Thailand
Flower size: 10 cm

I got this plant two years ago from Jim's Orchids in Homer, New York. It is probably one of the best Paphiopedilum species for beginners in the temperature area. It grows very well in the windowsill and blooms every year. The flower buds usually show up on early winter and bloom on February to March. During this period I found it is better to keep the plant cool in the night and let the flowers develop slowly. Have you already noticed that the staminode just looks like an angry face?
