Background: Ethical issues in
occupational therapy education is important with a need for development of
internship curriculum and continuing professional education. Ethics education
has evolved over the past 20 years but there remains a lack of international
guidelines for ethics education in to occupational therapy. Purpose: The purpose of this
review is threefold. The first aim of the review was to identify published
contents of ethic education in occupational therapy. The second aim was to analyze
relevant teaching methods and evaluation tools. As a third purpose, this review
summarized contemporary medical ethic theories. Methods. We searched articles
published in English from PubMed from January 2015 to August 2021, with the
key words as “occupational therapy”, “ethic education”, “ethical issue”, “professionalism”,
“moral reasoning”. In order to perform a review to assess contemporary
education methods in the aspect of embedding medical ethics into occupational
therapy clinical practice education. Results. A total of 17 articles
were included in our study. We collected and organized them in the context of
current status in the medical ethic education, including the education
contents, the education methods and education fields, and the way to evaluate
the learning effectiveness. Conclusion. This review study
provides a better understand of contemporary medical ethic education, of
which shed light on embedding medical ethics into occupational therapy
clinical practice education. Future research is warranted to improve
evidence- based education methods of occupational therapy in this
understudied area. |
