賀林依依老師榮獲中央研究院研究成果-數理組三項重要成果之一

Introduction to this research

由台灣大學及中央研究院主導的研究團隊，透過衛星影像與實驗室火山灰溶出測定，發現火山灰溶出的營養物質可在貧瘠的西北太平洋海域有效刺激浮游植物的顯著增生。火山灰與大氣中酸性水氣接觸後大量溶出磷及鐵，是浮游植物生長之主要營養源。根據衛星光譜分析顯示該海域增生的浮游植物主要由具固氮作用的束毛藻造成，顯示火山噴發對全球生物性物質如何透過海洋生物地球化學作用而循環極為重要。

Introduction to Academia Sinica Research Award for Junior Research Investigators

The purpose of the Award is to encourage junior researchers in Taiwan to publish papers that have the significance, innovation, and intellectual depth to make a lasting impact in their research fields. At most five awards are given annually in each of the following divisions of intellectual endeavors: Mathematics and Physical Sciences; Life Sciences; and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Introduction to START Young Scientist Award

START's Young Scientist Award program recognizes the achievements of outstanding young scientists from developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean region. Award decisions are based on a journal article published by the young scientist.

In keeping with START's mission of conducting research on regional aspects of global change, the article should focus on some aspect of global change research that is being conducted on a regional level or has a strong regional focus. The research presented in this year's awarded papers is related to the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) program, the International Human Dimensions of Global Change (IHDP) program, the World Climate Research Program (WCRP), the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), the Past Global Changes (PAGES) project, and the Data and Information Systems (DIS) project.
