on Tzu of Wung Ting-Yuin and Wei Chuang
A.
Introduction:
Wen Ting-Yun is considered as the pioneer of the creation of Tzu poetic works,
and Wei Chuang is considered as the leader in the arena of Tzu. These two writers
may be described as the two mountains with parallel standing among the collective
works of "Hua Chian Tzu’ (The Tzu in the Flower World). They both held important
position in the history of the development of Chinese Tzu poetry. This course
is aiming at achieving the following goals:
(1) To obtain certain basic knowledge on Tzu poetry.
(2) To understand the academic development during that particular era.
(3) To foster good manners to conduct scholarly research.
(4) To be skilled with relevant methods.
(5) To develop new topics for the research.
B. Course synopsis:
The content is divided into three parts approximately:
(1) An introduction on the background.
(2) A general introduction on the works as a whole.
(3) The reading and the discussion of the works.
The above mentioned five course goals are to be assigned in the proceeding
of the instruction.
C. Grading:
(1) Students’ performance in class (including oral reports, participation in
the discussion and some casual tests held in the class).
(2) A written report submitted by the end of the semester.
