Study on the Bronze Inscription

The bronze inscription was the written words engraved on the bronze ware during the Yin Chou and the Chin and the Han Dynasty. Issues regarding the background reasons for the casting, usage and the system of decrees and regulations for that particular era and so on, are the most direct and important material for the study of ancient history. The book written by the instructor which entitled ‘Chin Wen Shuan Tu’ (Selected reading on bronze inscription) will be used as the textbookl for this course. In the book, the author quotes relevant material from classics and the engraved inscriptions from all kinds of utensil as the mutual proofs and to interpret them in details. Students who plan to take the course are advised to acquire some previous knowledge on ancient written language; otherwise, they should refer to the book written by Rong Geng so that the course could be progressed accordingly. Students should submit a term paper at the end of each semester.
