從 Instructor: Yu Fang Course Outlines : The scope of the content of the instruction ranges from an introduction of the traditional definition of literature to the re-examination on issues of literature in modern era. The foci of the instruction are on the interrelation among authors, the reader and texts, esthetics and literal criticism, and the connection between literature and language. During the instructional process, examples will be employed to exemplify related theories. After the learning of this introductory course, students should be able to integrate what they have learned into their own reading and writing experience so that they could apply their knowledge on literature to their life.
Course Outlines: The main purpose of this course is to lead students to acknowledge the whole of academic domain that the Department of 'Chinese' contains. We wish to provide students with a fundamental knowledge base for their further study in the Department of Chinese through a general introduction of the classification and academic origin of traditional studies. The content of the course for the entire academic year is divided into four units:Units I: An explanation of the traditional categorization of books and the classification of school of learning and an introduction of bibliography and philology will be served as the guide for beginning learners.Unit II: The introduction of ancient Chinese books, which are divided into four groups as classics, history, philosophy and literary works, will be focused on the nature, content and development pertaining to each area of study. This part of lecture will also include a brief introduction of certain important books for each domain.Unit III: Targeted for the exploration on trends of the development of Chinese traditional studies, the lecture will also include a summary on issues that are of great importance to the study of each era and on customs that belong to particular period.Unit IV: To the challenge and response facing the Chinese traditional studies in modern era, we will further examine the dissemination and future development of the studies as a whole.
Instructor: Yio-Ming Wei Course Outlines : This
is a study on a general introduction of modern linguistics. After
studying, students should be able to acknowledge the fundamental nature
of language, to know how to analyze the structure of language, and to be
able to apply their knowledge to practice. The content of the course
includes an introduction on theories of phone (sound), vocabulary and
syntax, and the introduction on the application of language such as
issues of social phenomenon of dialects and language, the development
and change of language, etc... The course is designed particularly for
students of Department of Chinese, thus, Chinese language will be
adopted as the major example to explore and analyze issues of language.
Instructor: Chi-Peng Ho Course
Outlines: The course is aimed at providing students with a complete and
profound understanding on the development of Chinese literature in the
past three thousand year. The teaching will focus on the discovery of
issues on social and political context of a particular period, the
relation of change and development, and the contributions of exemplary
figures to the development of Chinese literature, etc… Students are
expected to obtain a complete and systematic understanding on literal
history through the study of related writing. Thus, they would be able
to teach or to pursue further study in this area with a solid
knowledge-base in the future.
Instructor: Gin-Sung Hsu Course Outlines: The goal of the course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge and principles in conducting research on paleography, thus, students will be able to pursue further study in this area. The foci of the instruction are as followed: a. The content of Paleography. b. The origin of written language system. c. The nature of the writing of Chinese characters. d. The characteristics of the form of characters. e. The structure and categorization of written language. f. The main styles of ancient Chinese characters. g. The development of forms of characters and general principles of development and change. h. The creativity of individual word. i. Methods for the research and interpretation of written language. j. The complexity of written language. k. The application of paleography.

is a continuum of the course in ‘Selected Readings of Chinese Prose in
Pre-Chin and Han Period’. The scope of the selected readings ranges
from Three Kingdoms Period to Chin Dynasty. On the readings of

literal styles; as to readings selected from Tang Period and Chin
Dynasty, we will focus on the exploration of the relationship between

Instructor: Yu Tsai Course Outlines: The readings of this course are chosen from famous poetry of Han-Wey
Period to Tang-Sung Dynasty. The purposes of the instruction are, first
of all, to lead students to acquire a systematic understanding and
comprehension of the development of Chinese poetry, forms of poetry, and
the interpretation and writing of poetic works; secondly, to lead
students to further understand the living context of individual poet and
the characteristics of literature of particular period; and the third,
to reflect upon the interactions between classical poetry and the modern
society.

Instructor: Chang-Pu Hsia Course
Outlines: Any
particular ideology will be avoided during the instructional process;
besides, the interpretation of any particular thought will also not to
be confined to any particular school of learning. Through the survey on
substantial literatures and documents, we wish to provide students with
an objective and specific description of the history of Chinese thought.
The key to the change of ideas and the cause of changes of particular
thought will be emphasized. As a result, students should be able to
obtain a clear understanding on the history of Chinese thought; in
addition, they should be able to grasp the pivot of the development and
change of Chinese thought. In
addition to the lecturing from the instructor, the proceeding of this
course requires a full engagement from students; that is, a list of
reading assignment will be given in advance for students to complete
before attending the class, thus, the instructor will give the reading
assignment a summary in pointing out the main idea in assigned readings
in order to help student with their learning. It is hoped that students
would be able to obtain adequate ability in the reading of ancient books

an integrative study, the purposes are as followed: A.
The studying of system of meaning and rules of change of ancient
Chinese language. B.
The interpretation of the meaning of words in ancient
literatures. We will start the instruction with an introduction of the definition, materials and methods of semantics, and the general development of this particular study. Through the studying of related knowledge and the reading of important literatures, we wish to help students to obtain a profound understanding on Chinese language and Chinese characters and to increase students’ ability in the reading of classical books. |
