Consider a circular model where free-entry retailers implement a dual pricing strategy, consisting of uniform pricing for distant consumers and personalized pricing strategies to cater to nearby consumers. Our analysis indicates that personalized pricing by retailers can enhance both social welfare and consumer surplus within this circular model. This outcome arises because as more consumers are served through personalized pricing, the demand for uniform pricing diminishes, leading to lower uniform prices. These lower prices, in turn, offset the profits from the personalized pricing market, which results in reduced entry into the market. Despite this, excess entry still persists.
