Bloom et al. (2020) and Park et al. (2023) highlight the increasing difficulty in discovering new ideas and a decline in disruptive innovations. This study investigates the impact of team composition on the quality and citation impact of papers and patents, strategies for publishing high-impact papers, and the influence of gender, grants, prizes, and artificial intelligence (AI) on innovation. Key findings include the benefits of small and multinational teams, the importance of physical proximity, and the role of ethnic diversity in promoting collaboration. Strategies for high-impact papers involve balancing conservative and innovative approaches, while gender inequality and the distribution of grants and prizes remain significant factors. AI aids scientific discovery but can create an illusion of understanding. This study introduces recent advancements in the "Science of Science" to economists, a topic often overlooked in economics journals. |
