	This paper investigates the impact of introducing telemedicine into a market alongside physical hospitals on the equilibrium levels of quality research and development (R&D) and regulated prices. We derive the following interesting results. First, the presence of telemedicine hinders (promotes) quality R&D and decreases (increases) the regulated prices of the hospitals if the R&D cost parameter is relatively low (high). Second, in the absence of telemedicine, the hospitals underinvest in R&D, while the optimal R&D levels reach the first-best allocation in the presence of telemedicine. We also examine the effects on quality R&D of intensifying competition through two channels: increasing the number of physical hospitals and lowering transportation costs. The former results in reduced quality R&D efforts by the hospitals, whereas the latter leads to the opposite outcomes.
