摘要 Abstract of the Paper	Under the context of globalization, participating in global value chains (GVCs) is seen as a primary objective for all countries. Vietnam, an export-oriented country, has been striving to deepen its involvement in GVCs over the past few decades. However, various difficulties hinder its participation in GVCs and its competitiveness, the most significant of which is the low domestic added value of its export products. This research investigates the relationship between engagement in GVCs and the export quality of Vietnam’s manufacturing firms from 2010 to 2020. The empirical findings show that engagement in backward GVCs positively affects the export quality of firms. However, there is no empirical evidence to indicate that engagement in forward GVCs contributes to the upgrading of the product quality of exporting firms. Based on these findings, we offer several implications to promote Vietnam’s manufacturing firms to engage in GVCs while enhancing their export quality, thereby contributing to economic sustainable development.
