摘要 Abstract of the paper	This study provides a welfare analysis on minimum quality standards (MQS) in a duopolistic durablegoods market with initial quality disparity. We find that MQS may be socially desirable in the durablegoods market in comparison to the undesirable result in the non-durable benchmark case. Moreover, MQS regulation will lead the high-quality firm to reduce the product quality and decrease the ex post quality disparity. Two extensions including imperfectly durability rate and horizontal product differentiation are also discussed. keywords: Minimum quality standards (MQS); durable goods; initial quality disparity; qualityenhancing R&D; welfare analysis
