摘要 Abstract of the paper |
According to copyright and design law (e.g. Directive 98/71/EC),
manufacturers monopolize their ancillary goods market (e.g. electronic or
automotive devices). Many cases are showing that enterprises prevent
competition in the aftermarket through law or compatibility. The right to
repair and repair clause has been gained attention on the United States and
within the European Union. The right to repair refers to proposed government
legislation that would allow consumers the ability to repair and modify their
own consumer product, where otherwise the manufacturer of such products
requires the consumer to use only their offered services by restricting
access to tools and components, or software barriers put in place to hinder
independent repair or modification. This working paper focuses on whether
firms have incentives to support the right to repair voluntarily. |
