摘要 |
This note sets up a model, based on Brander and Spencer (1985), with two countries each with a single firm that exports all its output to a third market where the two firms compete as Cournot duopolists and suggests that as the country with the low-cost firm has most to gain from intervention, whatever the direction of the policy it adopts, the absolute value of the export subsidy/tax of the country with the low cost firm is larger than the absolute value of the export subsidy/tax of the country with the high cost firm. This is a generalization of the result in de Meza (1986) to allow for both normal and perverse demand functions. It is more general than the result of Bandyopadhyay (1997) since it allows the comparison of the trade policies of the two countries when one country uses an export subsidy and the other country uses an export tax. |
