This paper attempts to demonstrate that the first appearance of the spatial monopoly model is in Launhardt¡¦s 1885 book.   It shows that the theory of spatial demand and spatial monopolistic firm¡¦s economic decision was highly advanced in Chapter 27 of Launhardt¡¦s book entitled Market Area for the Sale of Goods.  By his mathematical presentation of the spatial monopoly model, Launhardt anticipated the spatial monopoly analysis developed and extended by contemporary spatial economists.  Launhardt¡¦s name deserved to be mentioned as an early precursor of modern spatial economics.
