討論提要

This paper employs a successive oligopoly model with export-oriented producers in the downstream industry to investigate the influence of vertical integration on the equilibrium pattern of output and the domestic welfare. As the number of vertically integrated firm increase marginally, the domestic export may decrease if the change rises the market price for intermediate good extremely. It is shown that the vertical integration reducing the domestic export can enhance the social welfare due to the export is always excessive in the market structure with at least one vertically integrated firm. Furthermore, the policy implication regarding the vertical integration will differ when the domestic consumption and the foreign competition is considered in an extended model.

結論

1. As the vertical integration takes place, the change in the market price for intermediate good is crucial to the determination of the equilibrium patterns in an oriented-export industry.

2. Through encouraging or discouraging the domestic firms to merge vertically to reduce the domestic export, the government can enhance the social welfare from the initial one.

3. The policy implication regarding the vertical integration will change when the domestic consumption and the foreign competition is considered.
