討論提要

Anderson and Neven (1991) show that the central agglomeration is a unique location equilibrium for n firms if firms play Cournot competition and discriminate over space in a linear city model, while Gupta et al. (2004) obtain multiple location equilibria in a circular city model. This paper utilizes a very similar framework to ANs’ model but with a slightly modified market-serving condition and take into consideration the stability conditions. It is shown that the multiple location equilibria do not emerge and the location equilibrium for n firms can be of either spatial dispersion or central agglomeration, depending on the magnitude of transport rates. Furthermore, this paper reduces a general pattern of the location equilibrium for an even and an odd number of firms, respectively.

結論

The weak definition of the stability conditions need to seek some evidences from related literature.
