討論提要 |
This
paper considers the incentives of the North and the South to provide patent
protection to innovating firms in the North. The two regions are assumed to
have different distributions of preferences over the range of exploitable
technologies. This provides a motive for the South to protect patent rights
even when it constitutes a small share of the world market and has strong
free-riding incentives otherwise.
The major object of this study is the effect of regulations
controlling the level of transportation cost absorption. Given that welfare
is maximized at zero absorption and firm profit is maximized at spatial price
discrimination, it is curious that regulations commonly require that the
monopolist set uniform delivered price. |

延伸研究 |
The setting
about the differences between the North and the South in demand side is quite
simple and meaning-loaded. It can be explored easily in any research projects
talking about the differences in countries. Even in the quality model, it is
able to work. |
