討論提要 |
This paper challenges the result derived by Anderson and Neven (1991) (hereafter AN) and Hamilton et al. (1989) (hereafter HTW), which states that Cournot competition yields “unique” spatial agglomeration in a linear city model under linear and convex transportation cost functions. It arises from the fact that they give an inappropriate definition on the condition for serving the entire market. |
||
結論 |
This paper shows that Cournot competition could yield spatial dispersion when transport cost is not “too convex” with two firms and when transport cost is linear with n firms. The results obtained in AN and HTW are special cases when the transport cost is sufficiently low in this paper.. |

延伸研究 |
1. Extend the study to the case when the condition for serving the entire market is released. 2. Check the stability conditions for the five-firm case. |
