Department of Anthropology, National Taiwan University – Here We Are!

Institute of Anthropology, National Tsing Hua University – Located in the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology (社人所) at Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, divided into Departments of Sociology and Anthropology (社會學組及人類學組), with post graduate classes.

Institute of Ethnology, Academia Sinica – This is one of the most important anthropological (and archaeological) research centers in Taiwan. Despite the regular publication of a collection of ongoing research in the field, the Institute of Ethnology does not publish an academic journal or any publication focused specifically on anthropological research.

Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica - The Department of Anthropology (人類學組) is the Institute of History and Philology’s No 4 Department (第四組). Many of the archaeological sites in Taiwan are excavated by researchers from this Institute.

Department / Graduate School of Ethnology, National Chengchi University (政治大學民族學系/研究所) – Ethnological research undertaken at National tends to be focused on societies located in the border areas of Mainland China (中國邊疆社會).

Institute of Ethnic Relations and Culture, National Dong Hwa University –Established in 1995, the university is located in Shoufeng Townshup, Hualien County.

4. Museum Tour (博物館巡禮) – Journal for public and private museums in Taiwan and Fukien (台閩地區)

5. A Journey Across Taiwan: Digital Museum on the Discovery of Tamshui River (走過臺灣的足跡:淡水河溯源數位圖書館)

6. Virtual Museum on the Plains Aborigines (平埔族虛擬博物館) – Showcases the initial results of collaborative research undertaken by the Department of Anthropology (NTU), Department of History (NTU), NTU Library and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (NTU). Includes all plains aborigine related data and a detailed list of relevant, documents and artifacts held at National Taiwan University.

7. National Museum of Prehistory – Located at the Peinan Cultural Site (卑南文化遺址) and an excellent example of an on-site museum, a trend that has become popular in Taiwan over the last few years.

8. Taiwan Folk Arts Museum – Mainly exhibits early folk artifacts, including clothing etc.

9. National Museum of Natural Science – Mainly collects natural history artifacts, including anthropological and archaeological items and research.

11. National Taiwan Museum (台灣省立博物館) – The predecessor of National Taiwan Museum was the Japanese Governor’s Museum (日本總督府博物館) established in 1908, one of the main institutions to conduct research into the aboriginal community in Taiwan during the Japanese era. Its collection includes a number of anthropological samples.

12. National Museum of History – Established in 1955 the National Museum of History mainly collects artifacts relating to Han Chinese culture and popular culture in Taiwan (台灣地區常民文化)

13. National Palace Museum – Mainly collects artifacts from the Han Chinese Imperial court and data on archaeological work undertaken in Mainland China (中國考古發掘資料).

14. National Tsing Hua University Arts Center – Aboriginal Art in a Changing Society ( 原生、族群、韌力-變遷社會中的原住民藝術)

15. Taiwan Aboriginal Handicraft R&D Association – Juisi Handicraft Art Workshop (台灣原住民工藝研究發展協會 - 芮絲工藝坊)

16. Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines – Located close to the National Palace Museum on Zhishan Road in Taipei City, this is one of the few private aborigine-oriented museums in Taiwan.
